All right already!

Unfortunately I didn't take a before picture, but this is a reasonable substitute. The woody shoot things (to use the formal, Latin name...) make a pretty effective screen.

This is the after. Looking at it, when I wrote yesterday I had cleaned up the first third of the creekbed, I think I meant the first fifth. There's still a long way to go...

Do you have to worry about brush fires?

Quite a bit, actually. They are not common necessarily, but a lot of hills in the area still carry scars from a major fire back in '89. The state forestry department has manditory clearing rules, which make sense. One of the things I'm trying to address in the creekbed is "ladder fuels" - basically low ground cover catching brush on fire then it going into small trees and finally up into the big trees. Take out the brush and limb the smaller trees and the fire can't climb into the big ones.
