Here's my new dream car. It is a BMW, but not the new M3 or 1-series or even an M6. It's a 1939 328 roadster.
The chances of my owning one of these are about nil, but I have to wonder - would a Nova frame be about the right size? Or maybe a PT cruiser?
Now that would be a project!

Your later-in-life car obsession amuses me -- did it pass you by in your teenage years?
Cool car, though. Not sure the PT is long enough...
Cooking, cars - we're all slow learners...
Touche.
Or just slow. Period.
And I thought Californians were rude...
And as an actual answer to your original question, in my teenage years I was satisfied with keeping whatever crappy car I had actually running. Running well or looking good were decidely secondary considerations. Being able to afford parts, owning tools and having a place to work on said projects (other than the gutter) are also factors.
